Through the Visiting Scholars Program, scholars, university professors, and experts in their fields make a wide assortment of special presentations in Delaware classrooms, grades
1 through 12. The scholars collaborate with schoolteachers to shape innovative custom programs. Student involvement is a key ingredient in all presentations, so programs often involve interactive activities such as role playing and artifact study.
This free program allows teachers to leverage resources and access subject-matter experts to increase knowledge in the classroom, at no cost to the school. The heart of the VSP lies in the collaboration between teacher and scholar. When this collaboration becomes a true partnership, everyone benefits - teacher, scholar, and most of all, students.
Visiting Scholars topics are designed for different grade levels; while some are suitable for any grade, from 1 through 12, others are best for grades 1 through 3 only, 4 through 12 only, or 9 through 12 only. Please check each topic's 'restrictions' before making a reservation.
Presentations are listed in the Visiting Scholars Catalog by grade level and then by topic (Arts, Culture & Society, or History) and sub-topic. Please be sure to review our entire listing of presentations - you may find your favorite presentation in an unexpected place! If there is something you are looking for and you cannot find it, call or email the office and we may be able to help (302-657-0650 or 800-752-2060 or info@dhf.org).
We encourage you to review our Catalog of scholars and topics, contact the scholar to discuss details including availability, and complete a Visiting Scholar Request Form (available in the Catalog and here). Many presentations are accompanied by slides, so be sure to discuss audiovisual needs with each scholar. Please send your Visiting Scholar Request Form at least one month before the scholar's visit, and always confirm the date with the scholar before completing the form.
Our Visiting Scholars Catalog is available for download as a searchable PDF file. The Catalog includes instructions for requesting and hosting a talk, lists the programs we offer by grade level, and contains the speakers' contact information. The request form is included at the end of the PDF and is available here. The catalog is no longer available in print.
